    Osteobiologics Registry

Advancing evidence based medicine and improving health care quality by supporting education and collaborative research, locally and globally, through…

…Providing on-line collaborative opportunities to advance evidence-based medicine

RMEC has identified a need to gather data around the efficacy of osteobiologics in spine health care delivery.  Care based only on informed opinion, personal observation or tradition is not always reliable, while health care driven by robust comparative clinical evidence is the gold standard.  Osteobiologics comprise a multi-billion dollar industry that is driven by a wide variety of products marketed with little evidence of efficacy and outcomes.  To this end, RMEC is working with clinical investigators to develop the Osteobiologics Registry. The goal of the RMEC Osteobiologics Registry is to provide evidence-based data surrounding the application and efficacy of osteobiologics in various surgical procedures

The Osteobiologics Registry Advisory Board was recently established from a large field of exceptional candidates.  The Board includes five uniquely qualified clinicians and researchers in the areas of osteobiologics and orthopedics: Jeff C. Wang, MD, President of Board, Professor of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery, UCLA Spine Center, UCLA School of Medicine; Howard S. An, MD, Director, Division of Spine Surgery, Rush University Medical Center; Wellington K. Hsu, MD, Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinburg School of Medicine; Jay R. Lieberman, MD, Director, New England Musculoskeletal Institute; and S. Tim Yoon, MD, Chief of Orthopaedics, Atlanta VAMC, Emory University.

The Osteobiologics Registry will collect prospective multisite data surrounding the application and efficacy of osteobiologics in various surgical procedures with the primary goal of improving treatments and outcomes for patients electing for spine surgery.  Collected data include demographic, clinical and radiographic outcomes on patients who have elected to have spine surgery using an osteobiologic and have signed an informed consent to voluntarily participate in the registry. Participating investigators will enter data through a secure online platform.  The data contained in the registry are observational data. RMEC and the Osteobiologics Registry do not determine which treatments are used for patients, but rather collect information regarding surgical treatment as they are applied per investigators’ standard of care.  Investigators will be granted access to this comprehensive observational database following the approval of research proposals.

    SUPPORT

We are actively seeking the support of foundations, product manufacturers, and other organizations to fund the Osteobiologics Registry.  If you are interested in sponsoring this research endeavor, please contact Caitlyn at 970.375.3649 for more details.  Data collection, analysis, and publication must remain independent of funding sources; we appreciate sponsors that recognize the value of removing bias and promoting independent review.
